A Virtual Halloween Celebration

By: Ellina Koo

Did you know that you can still celebrate Halloween at home virtually and have fun during this pandemic? Although celebrating Halloween in 2020 will look different than in any other year, that doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun. With coronavirus rates increasing in some parts of the country, lots of people are still thinking about how this Halloween could be celebrated. So here are some Halloween ideas that families and friends can do together virtually while staying safe at home.

  1. Virtual Pumpkin Party to Carve and Paint Pumpkins

This was obviously one of the best seasonal activities to do with your friends and family. It is perfect for Halloween whether you are planning to do this with younger kids or even adults. This is simple, and all you have to do is remove everything from inside of the pumpkin before you get started. Then, decorate the pumpkins however you want. You can make it as spooky as possible. With younger kids, you can change the pumpkin carving to pumpkin painting, so that it is easier and safer for them. Either way, the pumpkin will turn out awesome! Instead of doing it alone, connect with your friends/family through zoom or google meet to have fun together.

  1. Halloween Craft Party

Are you a hands-on person that likes to make things? Then, make crafts at home with your friends and family together, but virtually! There are so many different Halloween themed crafts, so here are just a few to choose from. First, make a Halloween pumpkin slime. Check out this tutorial (https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/halloween-slime/) for details on this DIY seasonal slime! Another fun option is a paper plate witch using just a few materials. The essentials and steps can be found here: https://nontoygifts.com/paper-plate-witch-craft-halloween/. The third option is a yarn wrapped mummy craft which is perfect for young kids! Crafting is definitely something that has to be part of a Halloween celebration at home, especially when making your own decorations.

  1. Spooky Game Night

Obviously, a spooky game night is a great option! Since most kids enjoy playing games, this will help make this Halloween unique from the other ones. There are already a bunch of Halloween themed board games that are entertaining. For example, Shadows in the Forest is a type of board game that most younger kids would like, while Betrayal at the House of the Hill is more for teens. Not only are there board games, but there is also free Bingo that could be printed out from the internet here: Free Printable Halloween Bingo. Everyone loves to play Bingo, and it can be played virtually with friends and family near and far. If you want to be extra, you can even get prizes and goodie bags to make the games more entertaining.

These are just a few of the many fun and safe Halloween activities that can be done at home for kids of all ages. In addition to being safe at home, Halloween can be celebrated virtually bringing together family and friends for some festive seasonal fun!
