The goal of the student-run organization SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is to empower adolescents to make wise decisions to keep them healthy and safe. Through tackling problems like drug misuse, careless driving, and poor judgment, SADD Club fosters a sense of accountability and support among its members. As members of SADD, students study and discuss serious issues of judgment in a secure and encouraging atmosphere.
This year, SADD Club has actively promoted these values through a series of impactful initiatives. First, students organized two successful blood drives with the New York Blood Center demonstrating our commitment to saving lives. About 1 in 7 people entering a hospital need blood. One pint of blood can save up to three lives. Through these events, students and faculty donated blood helping to ensure that local hospitals have the critical resources they need.
In addition to the blood drives, the SADD Club held a fundraiser for MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) at Chipotle which was a successful turnout! This fundraiser helped support MADD’s mission of advocating against drunk driving. This event pushed our shared vision of eliminating destructive decisions and creating safe communities.
Looking ahead, SADD Club members will participate in a unique educational experience, trying on goggles designed to simulate the effects of inebriation. This exercise aims to illustrate the significant impact that alcohol and drugs have on vision and motor skills. By navigating simple tasks while wearing the goggles, members will gain firsthand insight into the dangers of impaired driving.
Next year, join our club and be a member of SADD. It will be a good decision for sure!
