Festive Spots for Fall Fun

By: Brooke Gronich

As another great summer comes to an end and we head back to school, there is much to look forward to. The leaves begin to change and the weather cools down as we transition into fall! Fall is a season filled with festivals and turkey, and it is best spent with friends and family. Some of my personal favorite fall activities that everyone should enjoy this year include apple and pumpkin picking, haunted houses, and, of course, fall festivals. Lucky for you, I know the best spots on Long Island for you and your friends to make the most of fall.

Every year since I was young, my family and I would always head out into the Hamptons to go apple picking. Our favorite and go-to place is Milk Pail in Water Mill. Stepping onto this farm always puts a smile on my face! There is a corn maze that you will definitely get lost in and warm apple cider for everyone to enjoy. The apples are delicious, but my favorite part about the experience is spending time with my family. Milk Pail is the perfect spot to get into the fall mood and get a taste of why this season is so special!

For those wanting to stay more local, don’t worry because there are numerous farms and festivals in close proximity to us. The annual fall festival at Schmidt’s farm is going on from September 28 to October 27. Here you can pick out the best pumpkins, look at farm animals, and eat all the delicious fall foods; my favorite is pumpkin pie! If you are looking for a scare, then you should also be sure to come back to Schmidt’s farm at night and check out the haunted house. Halloween is something that everyone looks forward to year-round. What better way to get into the Halloween spirit than with a haunted house? Schmidt’s farm also offers a daytime haunted walk for those who aren’t necessarily ready for the scary nighttime scene. The haunt is the same, but the lights are turned on, and there is no actors present.

Lastly, you can attend the 26th annual Long Island Fall Festival, hosted by the Huntington Chamber of Commerce at Heckscher Park in Huntington, NY. This is the largest fall festival in the Northeast and something that you definitely don’t want to miss. Head out to Huntington with friends and family on Columbus Day Weekend to take advantage of this amazing local festivity.  There are hundreds of vendors, three stages of entertainment, a massive carnival, mouthwatering foods, and activities for everyone!

So get into the fall mood as soon as possible and participate in these classic activities. You definitely won’t regret it!
