The Thundercolts Strike Again

By: Jack Nevins

The Hills Thundercolts Varsity Girls Gymnastics team has flipped their way into a 9 record, to the top of league one in Suffolk County.

After a 9-1 record and placing third in the county, the Thundercolts were disappointed with their one loss at home to Middle Country. This Friday, October 20th, on Senior night, the Thundercolts will look to get their revenge at home against Middle Country. Both squads are 9-0 heading into the last meet of the season, ready to leave all the marbles on the floor.

The Thundercolts got off to a hot start, with notable wins over gymnastics powerhouses. On September 28th, Hills took down Bayshore/Islip at home, in dramatic fashion. On October third, the girls went on the road to defeat Smithtown, who were crowned the county champions last season. Now, they will face their toughest test yet with Middle Country on Friday. Hills is led by captains Hailey Stein, Haley Robinson, Adison Eisenberg, Charlie Gruber.

All four girls are seniors and will look to send a farewell to their Thundercolt team on Friday. Hailey Stein, Adison Eisenberg, and Haley Robinson are rounding out their 6-year varsity careers. Eisenberg was named a top-10 gymnast in the county last season, and these three girls will look to make individual counties following the last home meet on Friday. Captain Hailey Stein has made a great impact on the team’s success and followed up with the team success by saying “These past 6 years have meant everything to me, and to be here with my girls is another reason why I love this sport so much. I know that my time is over as a Thundercolt but my time has brought me so much happiness to compete. Wish the best for my underclassmen teammates, and cannot wait to see them succeed”.

A farewell tour as one may say for this year’s seniors, they will compete for the league champion spot following counties. In a remarkable season with several big wins, the Thundercolts will look to stay undefeated in tomorrow’s anticipated matchup.
