Welcome Back!

By: Julia Garelick

The start of the school year can be rough on some teenagers. It is a big shift from summer’s freedom and lack of structure to the measured routines of school. Going back to school is a transition for everyone. “High Schoolers” have to figure out who they are, who to hang out with, how to drive, and where to go. It is four years of intense highs and lows, but it will be the most important four years that will shape your life, so best of luck to all!

Some of you reading this article are just entering high school. It is definitely a turning point- meaning switching to a bigger school, meeting new peers, trying out greater levels of independence, and managing increased responsibilities and academic expectations. Throughout the first week of school, you will be introduced to many different aspects of HSE. You will be informed of the many different clubs and athletic programs offered, and you can join the ones that interest you most. It is thrilling to be learning in a new school environment and even more exciting to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Every year of high school comes with some great challenges, but with them come even better rewards. Students should make sure to go into the upcoming school year with their heads held high because positivity is the key to success. Half Hollow Hills School District, one of the top-ranked high schools in the state and the best in Suffolk County, perfectly blends academics, athletics, and the arts. There are so many great clubs to get involved in based on your passions, interests, and future goals. Whether it’s business, art, or science, there is truly something for everyone. Our school also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, such as musicals, award ceremonies, graduations, and homecoming/pep-rally. There are so many exciting opportunities and fun events scheduled this year. I cannot wait to report on all of them for you!
