Boys Varsity Golf Team Update

By Jared Morris

Fresh off a 10-2 season, the Boys Varsity Golf Team led by Coach Lein entered this season with a different perspective. We were tasked with being able to continue our team’s success despite losing many valuable seniors. With that being said, expectations were tempered, but we knew we had the talent to succeed.

Fast forward to current day. We currently sit at a very respectable 4-4 in a very competitive League II. Wins came against Commack, Huntington, and John Glenn (twice). This season, leading the charge are Junior Mark Muratore and Sophomore Cole Rappaport. From first hand experience, these two can match up with any top two from any other school. Record wise, this season has not matched last season, but we still have the opportunity to finish strong heading into the league tournament.

I caught up with co-captain Mark Muratore to get his outlook on the rest of the season: “I am looking forward to finishing the season strong. It is very important for us to finish over .500. My personal goal is to make the Suffolk County Championship and, hopefully making the New York State Championship.” In order to clinch a winning record, the golf team must win the final two matches against Harborfields. These final matches are something to pay close attention to because they determine the future for this season.

With all that being said, the young core that we have established will keep the program afloat for many years to come. The majority of the team will be back next year, so we will keep grinding throughout the rest of this season and into what looks like a very promising 2017 campaign.
