The Night Before Movie Review

By Emily Disman

Many people have strong traditions when it comes to Christmas, but after seeing this movie, it is clear that no tradition is stronger or crazier than the traditions celebrated by Ethan and his friends.

For the past ten years, Ethan, Isaac, and Chris have celebrated Christmas Eve together. Now that Isaac’s family is growing and Chris’s career is prospering, the three best friends decide that this Christmas Eve is going to be their last one together, and that they are going to go out with a bang! In order to do this, they plan to achieve the goal that they had set ten years ago…to go to the Nutcracker Ball, the best Christmas party in all of New York City.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, and Anthony Mackie star in this new movie that has the characteristics of both a sentimental Christmas movie and a hilarious, laugh out loud comedy. The Night Before allows the audience to experience Christmas Eve in an all-new, fun way. Before finally attending the party towards the end of the movie, the three friends continue their old traditions, which consist of wearing funny sweaters, doing karaoke to RUN-DMC’s “Christmas In Hollis,” and visiting the tree at Rockefeller Center. These details allow the audience to connect their experiences of wearing ugly sweaters, caroling, and seeing the tree to scenes within the movie. Additional star cameos, such as Miley Cyrus and James Franco, prove that the movie is going to be a hit before you even get to the theater! I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to have a laugh during the holidays. The Night Before is a must-see, and I would definitely see it again!
