Fall 2016 Fashion Trends

By Amanda Epstein and Alexa Foodim

Say goodbye to bathing suits and flip flops and hello to the new fall trends! If you want a wardrobe that is cool and trendy this season, these 5 fall trends are necessary.

Velvet

This smooth, soft, and comfortable fabric comes in a variety of colors. Velvet is used for dresses, shoes, skirts, pants, jackets, and more. It was showcased in the Givenchy Fall 2016 fashion show and has been taking the fashion world by storm ever since. Velvet was always considered a winter fabric –  typically showcased around the holiday season – but now the industry is designing velvet items for warmer weather. Celebrities, like Kendall Jenner, were even seen wearing velvet shirts and skirts in the warm month of July. This fun fabric has been making its appearance in the biggest department stores, including Bloomingdales, Macy’s, and Nordstrom.

Juicy Sweatsuit

Pull out your Juicy Sweatsuits from the back closet in your basement because they are back, and we’re not complaining! In 2001, Juicy Couture made a custom velour tracksuit for Madonna and sales quickly went through the roof. Soon after, we saw celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, and Jennifer Lopez, rocking the tracksuits as well. Fast forward to June 2014 when Juicy Couture sadly closed all of its stores, and the trend seemed to close right along with them. However, fashion does always repeat itself, and this trend has fought its way back sooner than expected. The sweatsuits (and newly designed jogger pants) are sold in a variety of colors and are now available at fine stores, such as Bloomingdales, ranging in price from $88-$120.

Bomber Jacket

Bomber Jackets are the perfect jacket for fall because they are lightweight, inexpensive, and transitional. The two most popular colors for this jacket are black and army green. Celebrities, such as Kanye West, Rihanna, and GiGi Hadid, are rocking the look, and you should too! Bomber Jackets are sold in stores, such as Forever 21, Bloomingdales, Express, and Urban Outfitters.

Fall Nail Colors

I know I am not the only one who stares at the wall of color options for a few minutes too long at the nail salon. To help you pick a fun color for the season, here is a list of Essie’s fall 2016 collection! Essie’s nail colors are very opaque, look good on everyone, and a favorite nail polish brand of everyone.

Kiminono-Over is a great purple color that is not too light or too dark. If you are looking for something a little fun and spicy, this is the color for you.

Go Go Geisha is a mixture of a nude and a light pink shade that is perfect for all skin tones. This color is great if you don’t love polish, but want a clean look, because it is very close to a natural nail color.

Maki Me Happy is a deep red, a classic fall nail color. A nice shade of red is always a great match with a fall sweater outfit and perfect if you want to make a statement.

Now and Zen is a gorgeous light grey. Grey nail colors are always in style because they match well with any outfit. Grey is the way to go when you don’t know what color pick – it truly never fails.

Muted Orange Color Scheme

Every year, there seems to be some color trend that makes an appearance during the fall season. Through my observations I have come to the conclusion that this year’s trending color is a muted orange. Most people would say “ew! orange,” but let me be the first to tell you that those people are most definitely wrong. Models for popular brands, such as Banana Republic, rocked the muted orange in a good amount of their fall 2016 shows, and it looked stunning. It is a super cool new trend, and I promise that if you match a muted orange shirt with jeans and a white hat and a scarf, you will be turning heads!
