For as long as we can remember, we have been begging our parents for a puppy of our own. After they said they were not ready to take on the responsibility, we came to a deal. Our fathers both agreed to take us to Selmer’s Pet Land twice a month to play with the puppies. Every time we walk in, we feel overwhelmed with joy to spend even just one hour with all of these adorable animals. Of course they are looking for homes, but we feel that we are doing something special just by playing with them, hugging them, and showing them lots of love. The feeling is reciprocated, as we enjoy every minute spent with all of these very special animals!
Selmer’s Pet Land has been family run since 1939. They take pride in what they do, and we believe that it is always best to support local, family run businesses. Selmer’s Pet Land does not only sell adorable puppies, but also many different pets, such as freshwater fish, marine fish, reptiles, birds, parrots, and small pets, like bunnies. There is a wide selection of animal food, treats, and supplies. Don’t forget to buy the homemade dog treats clearly made with love by Grandma Jackie. No matter what you’re looking for, we can confidently say that they will have something for you!
In addition, Selmer’s Pet Land is so unique and special because they have a policy that if within the first 14 days your newly purchased pet needs any medication from the vet, they will reimburse you. They clearly stand behind every animal they sell. If you bring in the receipts from the vet to the store and speak with the manager, who is such a nice man, he will do whatever it takes to make sure that you are happy.
If you happen to already own a pet, Selmer’s Pet Land is also a wonderful location to buy food, toys, and other necessities for your animal. The dog grooming department is superb. If you are looking for top quality food to feed your pet, they have a wide selection of organic, grain-free, and holistic dog food. They stock different varieties of fresh and frozen dog food as well as raw dog food. When shopping at Selmer’s, you will see that the prices are very reasonable when compared with other, chain pet stores.
We can’t say enough good things about the staff at Selmer’s Pet Land. They greet you with a smile and are always very friendly. Additionally, they are very knowledgable about what is best for your specific pet, so don’t hesitate to ask. They are always happy to give you personal attention and answer all of your questions. They are trained properly and are capable of helping the customer with what they need. For example, we witnessed a women ask several questions about her own pet, and she was so impressed with how much time one of the employees spent reassuring her and making her feel comfortable. You can tell the minute you walk through the door that they truly care.
We have been going to this very special store for over ten years, and our families have always been happy with everything from the prices to the integrity of the employees. The puppies are kept clean, and they always look so content. The only thing missing in their lives is a loving home. Just like we did, you can work hard and convince your parents to get you a pet. It took a while, but our parents now say that they couldn’t imagine life without our dogs. If you ever want a pet, this is the store to go to. We can’t find a negative thing to say about them. Selmer’s Pet Land is located at 125 East Jericho Turnpike in South Huntington. The hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Sundays and holidays 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
