The Biggest Game of the Year for the High School East Thunderbirds… Homecoming!

By: Nikki Frankel

The most thrilling moment occurred at 3:00pm on September 14th, not just for the Thunderbird football team from High School East, but for the entire student population. During the school day, students participated in a pep rally where they competed in relay races, displayed their school pride, and witnessed a variety of performances from the school’s sports and dancing teams. But they were anticipating more than just that. The Thunderbirds played North Babylon at home after school. On the yearly give your jersey to a teacher day for homecoming, the football team gave their teachers a token of their thanks. Students gathered in the stands to cheer on the Thunderbirds while wearing all-black attire for the theme known as “blackout.” Food trucks of all kinds were available for spectators to enjoy while the event was in progress.

As part of the halftime show, the marching band was joined by the Hills East Kickline Team, the Dixettes. The school spirit was at an all-time high, and the fight and game were excellent despite the Thunderbirds’ loss to North Babylon.
