Fantasy Football is Back!

By: Jack Gottleib

As the NFL season approaches, so does the fantasy football season. I’m here to give you advice on who to draft and who not to draft as you’re putting together your dream team from week to week.

Players to Pick

David Montgomery: Montgomery was drafted in the third round of this past NFL draft. He has been praised all off-season for his pass catching and potential to be a three down back. Tarik Cohen is still there and likely to retain third down duties, but Montgomery should have no problems leading on early downs. Look for him to make a case for Rookie of the Year.

Geronimo Allison: This guy is the definition of a sleeper. Hampered by a number of injuries last season, Allison was quietly very productive when healthy. Aaron Rodgers has to throw at someone behind Davante Adams, and it very well could be Allison who steps up. Already pegged as the slot receiver, Allison is someone I love going into the season.

Chris Carson: One of my breakout candidates from last year, Carson rushed for over 1,000 yards despite dealing with injuries all season. Now healthy and ready to go, look for Carson to carry the load on what should be a run heavy offense. Despite Rashaad Penny entering his sophomore season, I still expect Carson to get a majority of the work.

Players to Avoid

David Johnson: Currently going as a top 4 pick, I don’t understand why the fantasy world is suddenly opening up to Johnson. A complete disappointment last season, Johnson has me wondering if all the injuries have caught up to him. The Cardinals offense should improve with the arrival of Kyler Murray and Kliff Kingsbury, but I still don’t think it’s enough for David to have value at where he’s being picked.

Jarvis Landry: Someone who I have never like in fantasy, Landy’s value takes an even bigger hit with the arrival of his former college teammate and best friend Odell Beckham. Landry, who has always been a possession receiver, offers very little upside or big play ability.

Marlon Mack: I was a big fan of Mack before Andrew Luck’s retirement. This changes the outlook of the entire offense. With Luck gone, the Colts will struggle to move the ball, minimizing the opportunities Mack gets.
